My Training With Kettlebells From HighSchool

“What on earth is that thing?” I remember asking my highschool gym teacher.

“It’s called a kettlebell,” he replied, “The strongest Russian wrestlers on earth have been using them forever.”
Which was my introduction to qualify for the unique piece of workout equipment known as a kettlebell. When I was in high school I played nearly every sport which was offered. Hockey, basketball, football, baseball, badminton, track & field, cross country and the rest that was happening recreationally. I found many skills crossed over amongst these many sports. Attributes for example explosiveness, endurance, agility, and mental toughness seemed to have the confindence to adapt to the actual goal of every game.

My Personal Kettlebell Testimonial

After highschool I went to school where I played a little basketball for a year before deciding to try something else. I got into boxing and eventually in mixed martial arts (MMA). This was back when the UFC was still fighting for its very life and was not the mainstream phenomenon that we see today. With people from so a number of backgrounds bringing their experiences and training methods along, MMA became an inferno where the most effective parts of everything that were thrown in survived. Nothing extra did. This led to kettlebells become a more important part of my workouts. Lots of the wrestlers (I had never wrestled as it was not offered at my school) had done training with these unique weights before and I immediately saw a difference in my athletic performance.

Who Need Em?

Like most westerners I had immediately dismissed kettlebells When I had seen them for the best time. I figured that whenever they were any good more people would be using them. Naturally like my old gym teacher, many athletes in other parts of the world had been using them for years. All through high school and university I stuck when using the good old combination of free weight barbells, a curl bar, a bench-press, and also odd universal gym exercise thrown in for better measure. Little did I realize that I was being incredible inefficient in my workouts as the outcomes I was looking for were right under my nose. Finally, I have decided that Kettlebells are right for me, and really, they should be used more often by more people. In fact, I coach basketball now and I have gotten my students to start training with kettlbells so they can be build strength faster.
